I love a new thought, and yesterday I came across one that really struck me.
Written by Prentice Mulford (1834-1891), it reads,
There is a sense in the tree which feels your love and responds to it.
It does not respond or show its pleasure in our way or in any way we can
now understand.
At times, life haunts me with a pain that threatens my destruction. I have found my best recourse is to lose
myself in nature. It is here when my senses are permeated with serenity that I feel my spirit lift, and with prayer
find despair replaced with steely determination–
a determination to beat the pain. Although life has touched my heart with unspeakable evil, I am determined to
respond with love. Allowing myself to crumble will only add to the chaos and allow the evil to win.
There is an enormous maple tree on the farm, where swings our hammock, which has become my dear friend.
I love leaning against it’s massive trunk and feeling it’s strong spirit sooth me– urging me to notice beauty and good–
to hear the birdsong in it’s branches,
to smell the scent of spring on the wind,
to see the sandhill cranes gracefully gliding across the prairie. . . to feel the grandness of nature.
And then that old maple whispers to my soul,
You are just as grand, just as beautiful as all of nature. Can you feel it?
Somehow, standing in it’s massive wooden embrace, I can.
Share your beauty, it whispers, it is key.
How grateful I am
for the trees.
For their spirit
and for giving me
a place to land
when I am hurting.
Hug a tree today.
The child in the hammock picture is superb (the others are good too!). May you find peace.
